Bejar, Issac I.; Weiss, David J. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The reliabilities yielded by several differential option weighting scoring procedures were compared among themselves as well as against conventional testing. It was found that increases in reliability due to differential option weighting were a function of inter-item correlations. Suggestions for the implementation of differential option weighting…

Burnett, Thomas D.; Barr, Donald R. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A nonparametric test of the hypothesis of no treatment effect is suggested for a situation where measures of the severity of the condition treated can be obtained and ranked both pre- and post-treatment. The test allows the pre-treatment rank to be used as a concomitant variable. (Author/JKS)

Taylor, James B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The reliability and item homogeneity of personality scales are in part dependent on the content domain being sampled, and this characteristic reliability cannot be explained by item ambiguity or scale length. It is suggested that clarity of self concept is also a determinant. (Author/JKS)

Kaiser, Henry F.; Michael, William B. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A formula is derived for ascertaining factor scores for the factor analytic method: Little Jiffy, Mark IV. This formula is then employed to derive a second formula giving an exact determination of the generalized Kuder-Richardson estimate of the reliability of scores on a Little Jiffy factor. (Author/JKS)

Silverstein, A. B.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Intercorrelations of the items of the Characteristics of the Treatment Environment instrument (CTE) were factored for three samples of attendants at institutions for the mentally retarded. These results differed from previous studies of the CTE, which was originally developed for mental or psychiatric hospitals. Two factors, autonomy and activity,…

Wolins, Leroy – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
In this brief note, the author argues against the use of squared correlation coefficients as measures of explained variance. (JKS)

Zuckerman, Miron; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A factor analysis of Rotter's internal-external locus of control scale is described. The four factors extracted were there correlated with several political attitude instruments. Results lead authors to suggest a modification in Rotter's scale, particularly in the "just world" items. (JKS)

Voyce, Colleen D.; Jackson, Douglas N. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A model designed to account for major factors on personality questionnaires is proposed and evaluated using the Differential Personality Inventory. Two respondent processes are postulated: sensitivity to the underlying desirability of items, and threshold for responding desirably. (Author/JKS)

Huck, Schuyler W.; Chuang, Irene C. S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The authors suggest that there may be a phenomenon of posttest sensitization which could affect the generalizability of experimental results in the way that pretest sensitization does. A quasi-experimental design is proposed to test for such a phenomenon. (JKS)

Doppelt, Jerome E.; Kaufman, Alan S. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The magnitude of differences between the intelligence quotients (IQs) obtained from the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and those from the original WISC was estimated. Results showed the WISC-R to yield slightly lower estimates. The particular sub-scale used, age, and ability level affected results. (Author/JKS)

Hakstian, A. Ralph; Bennet, Richard W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
A new multiple abilities battery, the Comprehensive Ability Battery, is described, and the results of five criterion-related validity studies using eleven tests of the battery are reported. (Author/JKS)

Doyle, Kenneth O., Jr. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The development of the Student Opinion Survey is described in terms of construction of the initial item pool, sampling of items, formation of general and specific scales, and evaluation of psychometric properties. Internal consistency reliabilities, scale intercorrelations, and specific variances are reported. (Author/JKS)

Willoughby, T. Lee; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The concurrent validity of a computer assisted test construction system designed to measure information in the medical sciences was assessed. Results support the usefulness of the system. (Author/JKS)

Dispoto, Raymond G. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Three of four scales from Maloney, Ward, and Braucht's revised or short-form ecology inventory were administered to college students, and were further validated. Unlike earlier findings, knowledge about ecology, the environment, and pollution was found to be predictive of actual behavior related to improving the environment. (Author/JKS)

Ayers, Jerry B.; Peters, R. Martin – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
The validity of the Test of English as a Foreign Language was examined in relation to prediction of success of fifty Asian students in engineering, chemistry, or mathematics. The test was significantly correlated with grade point average. (Author/JKS)
