HyperMinds for HyperTimes: The Demise of Rational, Logical Thought?
Campbell, Robert J.
Educational Technology, v38 n1 p24-31 Jan-Feb 1998
Contrasts rational thought with "hyperthinking" where individuals have no concept of how to gather, evaluate, and use information to create coherent arguments. Examines hypermind characteristics: lack of self-knowledge, prey to sensory stimulation, poor communication and thinking skills, lack of metacognitive abilities, and inability to handle information overload. Recommends return to logocentric thought with educators developing purposeful-thinking, information-literacy, and media-literacy skills. (AEF)
