By providing an educational alternative, Further Education or Adult Education was believed to be providing an alternative in social terms--that is, a form of education to which working-class youths had relatively easy access. Is the concept applicable to Scotland and does it provide an alternative route that is used by the working class? This research examines the destinations by January 1973 of those who left Scottish schools in 1971-72. (Author/RK)
