Describes a study which examined what British students in a postgraduate certificate in education course perceived to be the characteristics of an effective mathematics teacher. The three characteristics identified with effectiveness were: explains points clearly, pays attention to revision and examination technique, and is confident and at ease when teaching. (AM)
