Results showed hardly any differences in time-on-task behavior between third and fourth grade pupils in mixed age single age mathematics and language arts classes in the Netherlands. Students in mixed age classes spent more time working individually. The ability level of the students had little impact on time-on-task behavior. (Author/RM)

Survey findings showed that relatively few APS students are drawn from working-class backgrounds, and that substantial numbers come from one-parent families and from homes where the main wage-earner is unemployed. While 79 percent of secondary British teachers surveyed felt profiling to be a better way of assessing student progress, a significant 59 percent saw profiling as posing a threat to teaching time. Career and special education teachers had the most positive orientation toward profiling; math teachers exhibited a negative orientation. (RM)
