Meaning in Context: Is There Any Other Kind?
Mishler, Elliot G.
Harvard Educational Review, v49 n1 p1-19 Feb 1979
Contextual importance has been largely ignored by traditional research approaches in social/behavioral sciences and in their application to the education field. Developmental and social psychologists have increasingly noted this approach's inadequacies. Drawing examples from phenomenology, sociolinguistics, and ethomethodology, the author proposes alternative approaches for studying meaning in context. (Author/CSS)
