An Exploratory Investigation into the Relationship between Self-Esteem and Teaching Performance in a Group of Student Teachers.
Doherty, Jim
Educational Review, v32 n1 p21-35 Feb 1980
Before practice teaching, 174 student teachers completed four self-esteem/self-concept measures. Their cooperating teachers rated their student teaching performance. Subjects with low self-esteem experienced more psychosomatic symptoms, more emotional stress, more days of absence, and were rated lower on general teaching competence, staff relationships, and emotional problems.
