Role Specifications for Applicants for Heads of Mathematics Departments in Schools

Although many teachers believe in the importance of some sort of job specification, the lack of "further details," other than the brief details in an advertisement, offered to prospective applicants for teaching posts has been commented upon by Hilsum & Start (1974). This research attempts to provide some empirical data to substantiate this claim and show that headteachers/principals do not communicate much information to prospective recruits. (Author/RK)
