Student Achievement and Educational Change in Scotland, 1980-1995.
Paterson, Lindsay
Scottish Educational Review, v29 n1 p10-19 May 1997
Statistical evidence, 1980-95, on Scottish secondary students' attainment, achievement, rates of staying on in postcompulsory education, and rates of entering higher education indicates sharp reductions in differences between advantaged and disadvantaged students. Improved access to expanded curricula has been supported by a deeply embedded social philosophy of public provision that has resisted "New Right" politics. Contains 50 references. (SV)
