Evidence Evaluation and Use in Undergraduates' Everyday Reasoning.
Anderson, Tony; Soden, Rebecca; Hunter, Simon
Scottish Educational Review, v33 n1 p59-71 May 2001
In a peer interaction task involving controversial topics, 30 undergraduate psychology students identified strengths and weaknesses of various items of evidence. Participants could make some appropriate criticisms of evidence and were most positive about research-based evidence. However, generalizations were most frequently used to bolster participants' arguments, even after exposure to various evidence forms. (Contains 33 references.) (Author/SV)
