Beyond Fourth-Grade Science: Why Do U.S. and Japanese Students Diverge?
Linn, Marcia C.; Lewis, Catherine; Tsuchida, Ineko; Songer, Nancy Butler
Educational Researcher, v29 n3 p4-14 Apr 2000
Investigated divergence in science performance between U.S. and Japanese elementary students. Data from observations and analysis of science lessons in Japanese schools highlighted eight science activity structures and a rough order of occurrence in typical science lessons. These activity structures support a coherent inquiry process, and they may overlap substantially with those found in model U.S. science programs. (SM)
