This study examined curriculum materials used by 11-year-olds in schools in six states and categorized the materials according to the Annehurst Curriculum Classification System. Most materials were in the language arts and mathematics fields and were classified as low in the human dimension categories measured by the Annehurst System. (Authors/PP)

Degree of lesson complexity was examined and related to the type of approach used by eighth grade teachers. Results indicated that teachers adapt to the perceived complexity of class activities and to students' behavior cues, using direct instruction more frequently in mathematics and science than in the humanities and language arts. Analysis of high school discussion classes revealed no "male dominance" in the rate of participation or weight of contribution. The effects of using immediate feedback versus feedback delayed by 24 hours on academic self-concept and performance in arithmetic were studied, using 236 fourth graders as subjects. Delayed feedback seemed to benefit students with low perceptions of their academic ability; other students were unaffected by the type of feedback. (Authors/PP)

This study attempted to determine whether certain demographic factors, Intelligence Quotient tests, or achievement tests best predict achievement of second through fourth grade students. Three procedures for teaching rules to primary students were investigated: (1) rule saying; (2) rule saying plus training in associated concepts; and (3) both of the above plus strategy training in rule applications. Findings are reported based on an analysis of questionnaire data derived from a year-long study of the impact of student-oriented, computer-based research on student attitudes toward sociology and selected course activities.
