Principal Influence on Teacher Commitment: Substitutes for Leadership.
Pitner, Nancy J.; Charters, W. W., Jr.
Educational Research Quarterly, v12 n1 p25-36 1987-88
Using teacher commitment as a dependent variable, moderating effects of seven potential substitutes for leadership were investigated using 450 elementary-school teachers. Organizational-commitment scores rose sharply with increases in supportive leadership among staff with low professional orientation. Commitment did not vary with supportive leadership among staff with high professional orientation. (TJH)
