Gender Differences in Students' Approaches to A-Level Subject Choices and Perceptions of A-Level Subjects: A Study of First-Year A-Level Students in a Tertiary College.
Stables, Andrew; Stables, Sian
Educational Research, v37 n1 p39-51 Spr 1995
Advanced-level students aged 16-19 in Britain (n=209) were asked reasons for choosing A-level subjects, their career aspirations, and the advice they sought/received. Despite the fact that girls were overall significantly better qualified than boys, they were relatively lacking in confidence, especially in the sciences, and felt they needed more advice. (SK)
