Change of Emphasis in the Mathematics Assessments in Hungary.
Vari, Peter; Tuska, Agnes; Krolopp, Judit
Educational Research and Evaluation: An International Journal on Theory and Practice, v8 n1 p109-27 Mar 2002
Studied reasons for the decline in mathematics and science achievement shown by Hungarian students who participated in the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in comparison with student achievement before 1991. Findings suggest an emphasis on items requiring awareness of traditional disciplines in the Hungarian curriculum, with less importance given to the "real life" application of mathematics. (SLD)
