Behind the High Achievement of East Asian Students.
Leung, Frederick K. S.
Educational Research and Evaluation: An International Journal on Theory and Practice, v8 n1 p87-108 Mar 2002
Studied reasons for the high achievement students from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore on the Third International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Questionnaire data provided by students participating show that the superior results of these students may have come at the expense of other aspects of student development. Results also show relatively negative attitudes toward mathematics among these students. (SLD)
