For the Rich It's Richer: Print Experiences and Environments Offered to Children in Very Low- and Very High-Socioeconomic Status First-Grade Classrooms.
Duke, Nell K.
American Educational Research Journal, v37 n2 p441-78 Sum 2000
Studied differences in the print environment offered children in 20 first-grade classrooms of very low or very high socioeconomic status. Site visits show substantial differences between the two groups, with lower amount, type, and uses of print in the lower socioeconomic status classrooms. Meaningful differences in literacy instruction were found. (SLD)
