Elementary Teachers' Classroom Assessment and Grading Practices.
McMillan, James H.; Myran, Steve; Workman, Daryl
Journal of Educational Research, v95 n4 p203-13 Mar-Apr 2002
Investigated elementary teachers' assessment and grading practices. Teachers conceptualized six factors when grading students, emphasizing academic performance and achievement- enabling behaviors. Teachers used three types of assessments: constructed-response, objective, and teacher-made major examinations. They differentiated between recall and higher level cognitive skills. There were few relationships between assessment and grade level, subject matter assessed, and grades awarded. (SM)
