Confidentiality with Minors: The Need for Policy To Promote and Protect.
Stone, Carolyn; Isaacs, Madelyn L.
Journal of Educational Research, v96 n3 p140-50 Jan-Feb 2003
Investigated school counselors' attitudes toward breaching confidentiality before and after the 1999 Columbine High School shootings. Surveys of demographically similar counselors indicated that the Columbine shootings affected counselors' predictions about their attitudes and behavior regarding confidentiality. Counselors were more reluctant to breach confidentiality after the shooting and expressed less responsibility to parents. The younger the student, the more likely a counselor was to breach confidentiality. (SM)
