Asa Grant Hilliard III: Scholar Supreme
Watkins, William H.
Review of Educational Research, v78 n4 p994-1009 Dec 2008
This integrative review uses two of Asa Grant Hilliard's books, "SBA: The Reawakening of the African Mind" and "The Maroon Within Us: Selected Essays on African American Community Socialization", to discuss aspects of his scholarly legacy in teaching, history, and psychology. His scholarship is provocative. Hilliard rejected the supremacy of the Western world and, thus, its canons. A seminal thinker, he wrote in streams of consciousness, moving freely among and across disciplines. His work includes a body of information, data, analyses, critique, and polemic for the ages.
