The Influence of Gender, Academic Achievement and Non-school Factors upon Pre-adolescent Self-concept.
Hay, Ian; Ashman, Adrian F.; Van Kraayenoord, Christina E.
Educational Psychology: An International Journal of Experimental Educational Psychology, v18 n4 p461-70 Dec 1998
Investigates the influence of gender on the development of elementary school students' general self-concept along with academic achievement. Finds that pre-adolescent boys' and girls' general self-concepts were significantly influenced by peer and parent relationships and physical appearances, while only boys' general self-concept was influenced by reading and general school dimensions.
