Subtractive Bilingualism and the Survival of the Inuit Language: Heritage-versus Second-Language Education.
Wright, Stephen C.; Taylor, Donald M.; Macarthur, Judy
Journal of Educational Psychology, v92 n1 p63-84 Mar 2000
Examines the impact of early heritage-language education and second-language education on heritage-language and second-language development among Inuit, White, and mixed-heritage kindergarten children. Inuit children in second-language classes showed heritage language skills equal to or better than mixed-heritage children and Whites educated in their heritage language. Implications of these findings are discussed. (Author/MKA)
