Pressure from Above and Pressure from Below as Determinants of Teachers' Motivation and Teaching Behaviors.
Pelletier, Luc G.; Seguin-Levesque, Chantal; Legault, Louise
Journal of Educational Psychology, v94 n1 p186-96 Mar 2002
Examined social-contextual conditions that led teachers to be more autonomy supportive versus controlling with students. Using structural equation modeling the authors observed that the more pressure teachers perceive from above and from below, the less they are self-determined toward teaching. In turn, the less they are self-determined, the more they become controlling with students. (Author)
