Race Gender, and Educational Leadership: Perspectives from African American Principals.
Pollard, Diane S.
Educational Policy, v11 n3 p353-74 Sep 1997
African-American urban elementary school principals were interviewed regarding how their race and gender statuses influenced perceptions about their administrative roles. Race and gender statuses were important in shaping these principals' social constructions of their administrative roles and their sense of mission vis a vis students. Race, gender, and class were integrated in respondents' self-perceptions and expressions of self-confidence in overcoming social barriers. (MLH)
