Beginning Teachers: A Statewide Study of Factors Explaining Successful Completion of the Probationary Period.
Heck, Ronald H.; Wolcott, Louise P.
Educational Policy, v11 n1 p111-33 Mar 1997
Proposes and tests a structural model of socialization factors possibly related to the successful completion of probationary teaching. Variables included individual demographics, professional socialization, organizational context, and teaching performance. Results of the LISREL covariance analysis supported the proposed model's construct validity. The strongest effect on teacher performance was professional socialization. Implications are discussed.
