Research shows that adolescents in the US are not meeting literacy demands and there is significant disparity among racial and ethnic groups and among students from varied socioeconomic levels. A comprehensive approach is required to address the diverse literacy needs of adolescents and strategies that could be part of such an approach are suggested.
