Five Standards of Authentic Instruction.
Newmann, Fred M.; Wehlage, Gary G.
Educational Leadership, v50 n7 p8-12 Apr 1993
Authentic achievement relies on three restructuring criteria. Students construct meaning and produce knowledge, use disciplined inquiry to construct meaning, and aim their work toward producing discourse, products, and performances possessing value beyond school success. Five standards for rating instruction involve degrees of higher order thinking, depth of knowledge, connection to world, substantive conversation, and social support for student achievement. (MLH)
