On Research on Teaching: A Conversation with Lee Shulman.
Brandt, Ron
Educational Leadership, v49 n7 p14-19 Apr 1992
Stanford Professor Lee Shulman reflects on the limitations of effective teaching generalizations and describes how case histories, or specific stories about classroom experience, can enrich our collective wisdom of experience. Certain "effective teaching" practices (like asking short, focused questions suitable for standardized testing) do not develop higher order thinking skills. Intersection of content and pedagogy is essential. (MLH)
