Does Direct Instruction Cause Delinquency? Response to Schweinhart and Weikart.
Bereiter, Carl
Educational Leadership, v44 n3 p20-21 Nov 1986
Faults Lawrence J. Schweinhart and David P. Weikert's article in this "Educational Leadership" issue for concluding that disadvantaged preschoolers taught by direct instruction have twice the teenage delinquency rate of children experiencing the High/Scope program. Accuses the authors of exaggerating statistical differences, research bias, and relying too heavily on self-reported data. Cites nine references. (MLH)
