How Novice Teachers Can Succeed with Adolescents.
Gordon, Robin L.
Educational Leadership, v54 n7 p56-58 Apr 1997
Helping preservice and beginning teachers develop social insight or "withitness" remains a critical challenge for teacher educators. Secondary students are particularly critical of teachers lacking these qualities. Student teachers' insight-developing strategies include exposing themselves to adolescent culture, affirming students'"weather," relating content to students' outside interests, knowing their students individually, and celebrating life with students.
