Challenging Gender Bias in Fifth Grade.
Matthews, Catherine E.; Binkley, Wendy; Crisp, Amanda; Gregg, Kimberly
Educational Leadership, v55 n4 p54-57 Dec-Jan 1997-1998
Elementary teachers often unwittingly contribute to inequitable classroom environments. As part of a senior project, education majors at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, observed a fifth-grade class at a Guilford County school and solicited students' responses to two case studies involving gender equity issues. Kids enumerated instances of unfairness and suggested ways for teachers to treat everyone fairly--especially when calling on students for answers. (MLH)
