Voices of Women in the Field: Can You Top This?
Miller, Ramona
Journal of Women in Educational Leadership, v4 n2 p141-142 Apr 2006
Starting school is always an exciting time for educators and students. However, a public school with 11 staff members and only four students is not financially sound enough to retain the current staff or to keep the building open. The other 70 students who had originally enrolled in this school were now registered at a nearby charter school. As a result, seven days into the school year, the School Board made the decision to transfer the remaining four students to another school that was within the same district (although it was 22 miles away). The author shares her experience of opening and closing a school within a 12-day time span during September of 2005.
