Exploring World Cultures in Math Class.

Describes several lessons where teachers are using mathematics to develop students' knowledge of and appreciation for world cultures. The term used to express the relationship between mathematics and culture is "ethnomathematics." Lessons illustrated include, for example, comparison of Egyptian hieroglyphic numerals with Chinese rod numerals and ancient Mayan numerals. (12 references) (PKP)
