In Harm's Way: How Undercertified Teachers Hurt Their Students.
Laczko-Kerr, Ildiko; Berliner, David C.
Educational Leadership, v60 n8 p34-39 May 2003
Reviews research comparing teaching performance of certified and uncertified teachers. Concludes that certified teachers perform better in the classroom than do uncertified teachers. Furthermore, teachers completing many alternative-teacher-certification programs may not perform any better than uncertified teachers. Empirical study finds that elementary students of certified teachers had higher SAT-9 test score than students of uncertified teachers. (Contains 31 references.) (PKP)
