The Impact of Deinstitutionalization on the Adaptive Behavior of Adults with Mental Retardation: A Meta-Analysis.
Lynch, Patricia; Kellow, J. Thomas; Willson, Victor L.
Education and Training in Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, v32 n3 p255-61 Sep 1997
A meta-analysis of 11 studies examined findings regarding adaptive behavior gains of deinstitutionlized adults with mental retardation when placed in community-based programs. Results found studies involving persons with severe mental retardation exhibited larger gains, and the adaptive behaviors most influenced by community placement are those related to self-care.
