Alternatives to Laboratory Practicals - Do They Meet the Needs?
Hughes, Ian E.
Innovations in Education and Training International, v38 n1 p3-7 Feb 2001
Compares the academic performance of students exposed to either "wet" practical classes or "simulated" practicals. Assessed practical write-ups from pharmacology students using a simulation showed a mark significantly better than those doing the "wet" practical. Simulations can provide an aid to learning which is as effective as "wet" practicals, provided that this does not include learning of the practical details of methods used. (AEF)
