Some Cognitive Characteristics of Night-Sky Watchers: Correlations between Social Problem-Solving, Need for Cognition, and Noctcaelador
Kelly, William E.
Education, v126 n2 p328-333 Win 2005
This study explored the relationship between night-sky watching and self-reported cognitive variables: need for cognition and social problem-solving. University students (N = 140) completed the Noctcaelador Inventory, the Need for Cognition Scale, and the Social Problem Solving Inventory. The results indicated that an interest in the night-sky was positively correlated with need for cognition, a positive problem orientation and rational problem-solving approach and negatively correlated with an impulsive, carelessness style to problem-solving. Regression analyses indicated that only need for cognition accounted for unique variance in night-sky interest. (Contains 1 table.)
