Deans Speak out
Pitt, Alice; Dibbon, David; Sumara, Dennis; Wiens, John R.
Education Canada, v51 n1 Win 2011
Calls for students to develop 21st-century competencies are gaining traction among educators and policymakers, driven by a number of factors including research on learning; the ubiquity of information and communications technologies; and globalization in its many forms. What does 21st-century teaching mean to those who prepare young people for teaching careers? How is the profession of teaching changing? What should be the response of faculties of education through their pre-service programs? We asked four Deans of Education from across the country to share their thoughts about the changes we are seeing now, the changes to come, and the role they see for teacher education in meeting the demands of the new century. (Contains 3 endnotes.)
