Non-Circular Wheels: Reuleaux and Squares
Mills, Allan
Physics Education, v46 n2 p203-205 Mar 2011
Circular wheels are so familiar on vehicles of all types that it is seldom realized that alternatives do exist. This short non-mathematical article describes Reuleaux and square wheels that, rolling along appropriate tracks, can maintain a moving platform at a constant height. Easily made working models lend themselves to demonstrations at science fairs and open days. (Contains 6 figures.)
