Efficacy of Alternative Teacher Certification Programs: A Study of the Florida Model
Suell, Jo Lynn; Piotrowski, Chris
Education, v127 n2 p310-315 Win 2006
Alternative certification teacher programs have been gaining in popularity in recent years. Yet the efficacy of such programs remains in question and empirical data on such programs are urgently needed. The current study compared confidence in instructional skills designated in the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices in a sample of alternative certification program first-year graduates and traditional teachers. No significant differences between the two groups were noted. These results support prior research findings regarding equivalence in teacher competency in graduates of alternative programs versus traditionally trained teachers. (Contains 1 table.)
