Why Unstreaming?
Simon, Brian
Forum for the Discussion of New Trends in Education, 20, 2, 34-5, Spr 78
The abolition of streaming, intended to provide for individual differences, aims to free the student from the determining effects of classification, and theoretically makes it possible to provide a teaching/learning environment allowing for "individual" development. Essentially it overcomes the contradiction implicit in the streamed system (between its rationale and practice). Summarizes, in three steps, the rationale basis for the move to "unstreaming".
