Race and Gender as Factors in Judgments of Musical Performance.
Elliott, Charles A.
Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, n127 p50-56 Win 1995-1996
Investigates the effects of race and gender on evaluations of musical performances by musician educators. Also addresses the impact of the gender stereotype of particular instruments on evaluations. Finds that instrument stereotypes influence evaluations, particularly for female students playing "male" instruments, and that blacks were consistently evaluated lower than whites. (DSK)
