The Impact of the Civil War on Vocational Education.
Baker, Shirley A.
Journal of Vocational and Technical Education, v7 n2 p56-60 Spr 1991
The economic and social upheavals of the Civil War upon the South gave impetus to the development of vocational training for employment, such as Booker T. Washington's Tuskegee Institute and the first school for manual skills training in Saint Louis. Southern senators and representatives pioneered federal legislation that led to the modern development of vocational education. (SK)
