Teaching the Social Studies: Multiple Approaches for Multiple Perspectives.
Bennett, Christine; Spalding, Elizabeth
Theory and Research in Social Education, v20 n3 p263-92 Sum 1992
Presents a study analyzing the relationship between preservice teachers' perspectives of their role and how they teach social studies. Identifies seven perspectives: scholar psychologist, friendly scholar, inculcator, facilitator of thinking and lifelong learning, friendly pedagogue, empowerer, and nurturer. Concludes that multiple approaches to teaching social studies are needed to fit the multiple perspectives of teachers. (DK)
