Settling into School: The Importance of Early Friendships for the Development of Children's Social Understanding and Communicative Competence.

Reports the findings from a pilot study that investigated the effects of friendship on four and five year olds during their first term in school. Results suggested that friendship played an important part in developing children's social and communicative competencies and influenced children's performance in classroom-based learning activities.
