Comparison of Alcohol Use by College Students 1983 and 1988.

Compared alcohol use by college students in 1983 (n=366) and 1988 (n=288). Found greater abstinence in 1988, but similar percentages of heavy drinkers in both years. Students in 1988 seemed more aware of alcohol-related issues and peer influences to drink than were students in 1983. Providing specific programs to targeted subgroups may help reduce alcohol consumption. (Author/NB)
