Education in Cuba is one of several basic studies on education in the other American republics planned by the U.S. Office of Education as a part of a program to promote better understanding of education in the Latin American countries and to encourage closer educational cooperation. The study is based on first-hand data gathered by the author during visits to Cuba in 1940 and 1941, supplemented since then through documentation. Chapters include: (1) The Country and Its Education; (2) Kindergarten and Elementary Education; (3) Secondary Education; (4) Vocational Education; (5) Education and Status of Teachers; (6) University of Havana; and (7) General Cultural and Welfare Agencies. The following are appended: (1) Education and culture in the Cuban Constitution of July 1, 1940; and (2) Organization of the Ministry of Education. A bibliography is included. Individual sections contain footnotes. (Contains 24 tables.) [Best copy available has been provided.]
