Federal Government Funds for Education, 1948-49 and 1949-50. Bulletin, 1950, No. 3
Hutchins, Clayton D.; Keels, Myrtis
Office of Education, Federal Security Agency
Public education in the United States is supported by Federal, State, and local governments. Substantial amounts of money are provided by all three. The latest figures available indicate that expenditures for education account for about 35 percent of the total cost of local governments, 26 percent of State disbursements, and almost 9 percent of the Federal budget. The presentation of detailed information on Federal Government funds for education is the purpose of the present bulletin. Information has been gathered from many different Federal offices. Some data were obtained from published reports of the agencies. Other information has been secured through correspondence with officials who are responsible for the administration of Federal grants. The facts are summarized for use by those who desire to have information about Federal assistance for education presented as a unit. The funds are grouped by Federal agencies which administer the grants. An index is included. Individual sections contain footnotes. (Contains 45 tables.) [Best copy available has been provided.]
