Introducing the Peoples of the Far East. Bulletin, 1945, No. 7
US Office of Education, Federal Security Agency
A survey of the "Far East in Teacher Education Programs" sponsored by the U.S. Office of Education and the American Association of Teachers Colleges was completed in the fall of 1943. The study showed an immediate need for bringing to the consciousness of teachers throughout the country the long-term significance of Asia and the Far East in the national life. It is especially important that children develop the understanding and attitudes needed by them to live peacefully and cooperatively with all peoples of the world. With this in mind, a committee composed of representatives of Miner Teachers College, Wilson Teachers College, the Education Association of the District of Columbia, the Columbian Educational Association, and the U.S. Office of Education arranged during the early months of 1944 for a series of six lectures on the theme "Introducing the Peoples of the Far East." The lectures presented include: (1) The People of Japan (Joseph C. Grew); (2) Japan in the Postwar World (Sir George Sansom); (3) China in the Postwar World (George E. Taylor); (4) The People of the Philippines (Brig. Gen. Carlos P. Romulo); (5) The People of Thailand (M. R. Seni Pramoj); and (6) The People of the Netherlands East Indies (Raymond Kennedy). Individual sections contain footnotes. [Best copy available has been provided.]
