Exploring Cultural Competence Practice in Undergraduate Social Work Education
Guy-Walls, Patricia
Education, v127 n4 p569-580 Sum 2007
Cultural competency continues to be a concern for social work practitioners. This article examined the effectiveness of bachelor of social work (BSW) multicultural curricula at two universities in the mid-south. Data was collected using a survey research design to explore how well students were prepared for multicultural practice. Surveyed were senior level social work students using D'Andrea, Daniels and Heck's (1991) Multicultural Awareness-Knowledge-Skills Survey (MAKSS). Results indicated that these students were not being adequately prepared for culturally competent practice. (Contains 3 tables.)
